The Laravel feedback board you don’t have to build.

FeedbackOwl is a Laravel feedback package: your users post ideas, vote and comment, and your team plans on a roadmap and announces what shipped in a changelog. It runs behind your login, in your database. You keep building your product; we maintain the feedback board.

Dark mode

Most of my work happens late in the evening, and the bright white screen is hard on the eyes.

A dark theme that follows the system setting would be perfect.

We’re on it: the new colour system is done, the last screens follow this month.

Yes please! Ideally with a toggle in the app as well, not only the system setting.

Both are planned: System, Light and Dark in the settings.

Installation

Two minutes, five lines. Once Polar has invited your GitHub account, add the private repository to your app; Composer asks once for a GitHub token to read it. Laravel finds the service provider by itself, the migrations come with the package, and with one product the admin list is all the configuration you need.

$ composer config repositories.feedbackowl vcs https://github.com/feedbackowl-dev/feedbackowl-laravel
$ composer require feedbackowl/laravel
$ php artisan migrate
$ echo "FEEDBACKOWL_ADMINS=you@example.com" >> .env
$ open https://your-app.test/feedback

Signed-in users can post, vote and comment right away. Link the board from your navigation with route('feedbackowl.index').

Why a package, not a SaaS

Add FeedbackOwl to your own apps and your clients’ apps, and leave the feedback board to us. New features, fixes and support for new Laravel and PHP versions arrive with composer update.

It’s a self-hosted alternative to Canny and Featurebase: no monthly bill per product or seat, no second login for your users, no widget from another domain, and your data stays in your database.

What’s in the box

One board per product or tenant

Scopes keep the posts, votes and settings of each product, workspace or customer apart, taken from the URL or from your own code.

Your permissions

Three Laravel gates decide who can view, take part and manage. Keep the defaults or plug in your own rules.

A PHP API and events

Everything the pages do is one call away, like Feedback::post() or changeStatus(), and every action fires an event you can listen to.

Moderation for your team

Change status with a public note, set a planned date, approve new posts, pin, merge duplicates, and keep boards and tags for the team only.

Fits any Laravel stack

Plain Blade pages with no JavaScript framework and no build step, so they sit next to Livewire, Inertia or Filament. Every form works without JavaScript.

Settings without a deploy

Statuses, boards, tags, roadmaps and labels are managed on a settings page, so your team or your client can change them without you.

Automatic translation

With your own OpenAI or Anthropic key, posts and comments appear in the reader’s language, with the original one click away.

Spam protection

Rate limits and a honeypot on every form. Finished and closed posts stop taking votes.

Tested and bilingual

Every text in English and German. Tested with Pest and Larastan (level 8) on SQLite and MySQL.

Looks like part of your app

Show the board inside your own layout or as a page of its own. Light and dark mode follow the system. Colours, font and corner radius are CSS variables, and you can override any single view or switch off our styles and bring your own. Try a few:

--fowl-accent
mode
--fowl-radius

Extend it in plain Laravel

Composer, Blade, Eloquent and gates you already know. Import feedback from another tool, create posts from your support inbox, or notify voters when a status changes.

PHP
use FeedbackOwl\Events\StatusChanged;
use FeedbackOwl\Facades\Feedback;

$post = Feedback::post($user, 'Dark mode', 'Please follow the system setting.');

Feedback::vote($post, $anotherUser);
Feedback::changeStatus($post, 'planned', note: 'Coming in March.', by: $admin);

// Every action fires an event: PostCreated, VoteChanged, StatusChanged …
Event::listen(StatusChanged::class, NotifyVoters::class);

Scopes

A separate board per product, workspace or tenant, taken from the URL or from your own code.

config/feedbackowl.php
// /aawp/feedback, /clickwhale/feedback
'scope' => [
    'resolver' => RouteParameterScopeResolver::class,
    'available' => [
        'aawp' => 'AAWP',
        'clickwhale' => 'ClickWhale',
    ],
],
'routes' => [
    'prefix' => '{scope}',
],

Permissions

Check view, participate and manage like any other gate, or swap in your own rules.

Blade / PHP
@can('feedbackowl.manage')
    <a href="{{ route('feedbackowl.index') }}">Manage</a>
@endcan

Gate::authorize('feedbackowl.participate');

01 · Feedback board

Collect feature requests where your users already are.

The feedback board lives on your domain, behind your login, so your users don’t need another account. They post ideas, vote with one click and discuss in comments. While someone types a title, similar posts show up, so they vote on the existing request instead of adding a fifth copy.

    On the train I lose the connection every few minutes. It would be great to read and edit tasks offline and have them sync later.

02 · Roadmap

Show what’s planned on a public roadmap.

Pick the statuses that belong on the roadmap, like Planned and In Progress, and their posts appear there by themselves. Show them as columns your team drags cards between, or as a list by month, quarter or year. Need more than one? Keep a roadmap per year or quarter.

03 · Changelog

Tell everyone who asked.

When something ships, write a changelog entry and link the requests it closes. The people who voted see it on their post, everyone else in the changelog. Write in Markdown, add a video from YouTube, Vimeo or Bunny Stream, label entries as New, Improved or Fixed, and publish now or on a date you choose.

04 · Pricing

Pay once. Keep it.

Hosted feedback tools cost $20 to $80 a month or charge per seat. FeedbackOwl costs once, with no limit on posts or users and every future update included.

Building for yourself? Take Developer.
Building for clients? Take Agency.

“We built FeedbackOwl for our own products first. Today it runs in every one of them and in the client apps we build and hand over. It’s one Composer package, so each project gets a feedback board that looks like the rest of the app, and we never pay for another tool per client.”

05 · FAQ

Questions before you buy

Developer or Agency?Answered

Building for yourself or your company? Take Developer: it covers any number of apps you own and run, including a SaaS for your own customers. Building apps for clients, as an agency or a freelancer? Take Agency: it adds unlimited client projects.

Do my clients need a license?Answered

Not with Agency. You can hand a project over with the package inside it, for example as a Composer path repository in the project. Your client can then run, deploy and maintain that app without a license of their own.

How do I get the package after buying?Answered

Polar invites your GitHub account to the private repository. You add the repository to your app’s Composer config with a GitHub token and run composer require feedbackowl/laravel. The README walks you through it, CI included.

Why a one-time price and not a subscription?Answered

So nothing breaks. Your access to the repository never expires, and composer install keeps working in every project and every deploy. You get every update we publish, with no monthly fee and no price per user.

Is this a hosted service like Canny or Featurebase?Answered

No. FeedbackOwl is a self-hosted alternative: a Laravel package that runs in your app, on your server, in your database, with your users. Nothing goes to a third party, unless you turn on automatic translation with your own OpenAI or Anthropic key.

How is it different from ploi/roadmap?Answered

ploi/roadmap is a free, open source roadmap app that you install and run as a separate application, with its own accounts. FeedbackOwl is a package inside the Laravel app you already have, so your users are signed in already and the board looks like the rest of your app.

Does it work with Livewire, Inertia or Filament?Answered

Yes. FeedbackOwl brings its own Blade pages, without a JavaScript framework or build step, so it doesn’t touch your frontend. Render them in your own Blade layout or as a page of their own next to your app.

Can I change the code?Answered

Yes, for the apps your license covers. You get the full source code and the whole repository, with its history, releases and issues. You can’t pass the code on, sell it, or turn it into a feedback, roadmap or changelog package of your own.

Does it work for multi-tenant apps?Answered

Yes, that’s what scopes are for. Every record belongs to a product, workspace or tenant, and nothing leaks between them. Settings, statuses, tags and labels can be separate per scope or shared.

Which versions does it support?Answered

PHP 8.3+ and Laravel 12 or 13, with any database Laravel supports: MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL or SQLite.

Is it stable?Answered

It’s at version 0.6 and in use. Until 1.0, a minor version may bring breaking changes. Each one is listed in the changelog, and released migrations are never changed, only added.

What if you stop working on it?Answered

The code is in your project, so your feedback board keeps running. You keep access to the repository, and you can change the code yourself for the apps your license covers.

$ composer require feedbackowl/laravel

Add a Laravel feedback board to your app today.

One payment, every future update. Your users can post their first idea this afternoon.
